Vampires Are

by Stephen Kaplan

An obscure book privately published, but evidently still in print, Vampires Are describes some of Kaplan's adventures running the Vampire Research Center in New York City and interviewing self-identified real vampires, including Countess Misty. Although anecdotal, self-referential and shallow, the book has a certain historical value since I don't think anyone was making a serious study of real vampires before Kaplan (aside from people treating vampirism as sociopathology or psychopathology). Very dubious and very entertaining. (Kaplan died a few years ago, but the Vampire Research Center reportedly is still in operation.)
