Carpe Jugulum: A Novel of Discworldby Terry Pratchett Like all the popular Discworld books, Carpe Jugulum is high satire and outright silliness, as the author enjoys playing with words, concepts, and vampire conventions, mixed with some serious thought and a few messages. King Verence of Lancre decides to extend hospitality to the vampires of nearby Uberwald--a big mistake, because these vampires need to be invited in, and once they are, can't be stopped. They've also been conditioning themselves to tolerate sunlight, garlic and holy symbols and they even drink wine. The vampire paterfamilias Count de Magpyr plans to convert witch Granny Weatherwax to vampirism, removing the last obstacle between the vampires and complete control of Lancre. But the Count doesn't reckon on the forces that will array against his plot--including the vampires' dismissed former servant, Igor.
